Abstract

It was analyzed the spatial and temporal changes in the distribution of urban settlements in the Kherson region on the rule of “rank-size” in this article. It established a stable temporal and spatial relationship between the population of urban settlements of Kherson and its grades in different historical periods of development of the region. It was found that the system of urban settlements in the Kherson region forms the dominant pattern of distribution by rule of “rank-size” with a significant excess of the actual number of the regional center of theoretical population. Hypothesis was confirmed that the significant deviation from the ideal distribution exists in monocentric regions. There is only one large city, which concentrates the bulk of the urban population and “overbalance” the main function. This is actual problem of the further evolution of the settlement system and the integrated development of the Kherson region.
