MORPHOLOGICAL CONDITIONS OF THE COASTAL ZONE OF THE DNIPROVSKO-BUZKY LIMAN, BLACK SEA, UKRAINE

Abstract

The article presents the results of field and remote sensing studies of the morphological conditions of the coastal zone of the Dniprovsko-Buzky Liman. Field studies were conducted in the period from 2012 to 2022, and remote sensing studies were carried out from 2022 to 2025. The main purpose of the study is to investigate the morphological conditions and determine the diversity of the shores along the largest Liman of the Black Sea - the Dniprovsko-Buzky Liman. During the research, the genetic features, morphometric, and morphological parameters of the components of the estuary coastal zone were determined. The description of morphological conditions was based on the results of genetic and spatial analysis, which allowed us to identify five morphogenetic coastal zones along the liman: Dniprovsko- Buzka, Dniprovska, Kinburnska Peninsular, Kinburnka Spit, and Ochakivsko-Buzka.The study found that the morphological conditions of the estuary coastal zone are determined by the geological features of the region, namely the presence of disjunct faults and regional tectonic blocks.The tectonic blocks are characterized by multidirectional movements that have led to the formation of elevated shores in the north and low-lying shores in the south.The elevated nature of the coastline in the north leads to the dominance of abrasive shores, within which there are abrasive, abrasive-collapse, abrasive-slide, and dead cliffs. Along the foot of the cliffs are small beaches of incomplete profile, composed of alluvial sands, shells, and shell detritus. Along the contour of the abrasive shores, on the underwater slope, there are benches, in most cases covered with a thin layer of sand.Along the low-lying coastal areas in the east, south, and west, there are accumulative banks, within which there are phytogenic areas in the form of reed and reed beds, within which silt deposits are actively accumulating. In certain areas of the western part of the southern bank, the accumulative banks are eroding and tend to recede.The results of the study allow for a deeper understanding of the genetic and evolutionary features of the estuary shores and can be used in certain types of anthropogenic activities.
