The aim of the article is to analyse the unemployment as a factor affecting the formation of the middle class from the perspective of social and geographical research. In the article the analysis has been conducted and the results of research on the issue of the middle class have been summarized. It has been noted the priority of the middle class and the necessity to study the fundamentals of social geography position has been intended to reveal the modern science approaches to the definition of this phenomenon in space-time aspect and to outline the economic and geographic aspects of the phenomenon. The correlation analysis has been done, allowing to establish the relationship between indicators determining the strength and direction of their interaction. The attention has been focused on the illuminated indicators influencing the development of the middle class within the Capital macroregion of Ukraine while conducting the socio-geographic research.
