OUTBOUND TOURISM EXPENDITURES (PER CAPITA) AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE INTERNATIONAL TOURISM DEPARTURES

Abstract

Based on the statistics and standards of the World Bank and the World Tourism Organization, outbound tourism expenditures (per capita) and international tourism departures are considered as a cost and natural indicator of outbound tourist flows. These indicators have been analyzed and compared both for the world in 1996–2009 and for countries as of 2008, cluster analysis is carried out also. A correlation between these indicators was detected, but it was not too close and can be described by an exponential function. Tourism expenditures per one departure as “compensator”, which makes these indicators less dependent, have been identified.
