CLASSIFICATIONOFFARMING ECONOMIES IN THE KHERSON OBLAST
Abstract
It seems appropriate that social-geographic explorers of farming economies in their assessments of farm functioning and future development used such classification methods as objects’ systemization by quantitative, and typification – by qualitative parameters. To help systematize farms, explorers on the initial stages of their research would use descriptive classification and group them according to some attributes. Farming economies are suggested to be classified by types of their formation, time of formation, their size, land availability, employment specificities of labor resources, whole yield and specific crop capacity, livestock product’s volume of output, livestock population, production territorial types, degree of specialization, agricultural product overall production, business profitability, degrees of marketability and production efficiency, etc.
The most wide-spread types of farms in the Kherson Oblast’s are the family-type economies born in the first wave off arming formation in Ukraine (1992–1999). As a rule, these are diversified farms of significant area (50–500 ha) that use hired farm work, of arable-farming production/territorial type, oriented to growing sunflower and vegetables, of average profitability, showing average or insignificant figures of agricultural products’ overall production, and of average or low production efficiency.
